Destination: ‘Torbreck, Barossa Valley’
The roots go back to 1992 when David Powell, who was then working at
Rockford, began to discover and clean up a few sections of dry-grown old
vines.
In 1995 Dave crushed three tonnes of grapes and fermented them into wine
in a shed. He named his wine ‘Torbreck’ after a forest in Scotland where
he worked as a lumberjack. Since then Torbreck has grown to be one of the
leading Australian wineries specializing in Shiraz, Grenache and Mataro
(Mourvedre). Dave Powell is a passionate believer in the Barossa Valley
and its viticultural heritage. His approach to grapegrowing and winemaking
combines the region’s terroir with its traditional winemaking practises and
reflects his love for the wines of France’s Rhone Valley.
Vineyard tour with Dave Powell followed by tasting with winemaker Craig Isbel to include a focus on Grenache and Mataro, museum vintages and a Barossa subregional component tasting.
