Destination: ‘Crawford River, Henty’
John and Catherine Thomson planted their vineyard in 1975 at Crawford River,
in South West Victoria. At the time it was a relatively unexplored wine
growing region, but the Thomson’s believed that the cool southerly climate,
complex soil structure and favorable micro-climate had the prerequisites
for the production of fine wine. Today Crawford River is known for it’s
elegant Cabernet Sauvignon, whilst it’s Riesling is acknowledged as one of
Australia’s great wines of terroir. Vertical tastings going back over two
decades show the stunning ability of this wine to age and improve in bottle.
